🌞 Santa Barbara Sunday

Sunday is the day! We’re going out to Santa Barbara Polo Club to play and enjoy grass polo. Below is the schedule and instructions if you’re coming either as a player or a spectator.

• 10:00am: Coaching Pro Pool League chukkers (throw-in is at 10 sharp)
• Lauren’s private lesson TBD (following the 10:00 chukkers)
• 1:30pm Group lesson / scrimmage with Domingo coaching

Confirmed matches to spectate (Field 2):
• 12:00pm: Pro Pool All-Star Consolation
• 3:00pm: Pro Pool All-Star Final

Since we’re visiting SBPC, please note that their chukker play is very strictly and begin promptly on time. If you’re signed up, plan to be on your horse and ready at least 10 minutes beforehand, wearing appropriate team jerseys.

For example, if chukkers start at 10:00, that means throw-in at 10:00. The 1:30 lesson format will be a little more relaxed since it’s just our group, but please still plan to be punctual.

Look for CPC’s white tent on the field: we’re the only group with tents there, and our trailer will be parked nearby. That will be our meeting spot for the day.

Extra note: Jackson Hole Emporium will be open this weekend. If you need polo equipment or tack, it’s a great time to stop by and pick something up.

🚨 Scoring is here for Coaching and Intermediate Chukkers

You asked, we listened! Beginning this October, we’re excited to announce that both coaching and intermediate chukkers will now be officially scored. We know many of you have been eager to keep track of progress and add a little more friendly competition to your games, and we believe this will bring even more energy and excitement to each match. Whether you’re looking to measure improvement, celebrate team wins, or simply enjoy the thrill of having a goal notched on the scoreboard, this new addition will make our chukkers more engaging than ever.

Winner Winner, Polo Dinner 🐓

Thursday Night Polo Under the Lights, and a cozy chicken feast!

We’ll have homemade chicken pot pies and tortilla chicken soup waiting after chukkers, the perfect comfort food combo to warm up the evening.

This Thursday will be our last Polo Under the Lights and Potluck Social of the season, so please bring a dish or drinks to share, bring a friend, and enjoy good food, great polo, and even better company. Please RSVP here so we can prepare enough for everyone.

CPC Tournament This Month!

This month we’re thrilled to announce our very own in-house tournament! We’ll be hosting two exciting tournament days, each followed by a Potluck Social, on October 16th and 30th. It’s a wonderful opportunity to put your skills to the test, enjoy some friendly competition, and spend time with the community both on and off the field. We can’t wait to share this special event with all of you and celebrate together after the matches. If you’d like to participate or learn more, be sure to reach out to Katty for details!

California Association of Student Councils Fundraiser 🧑‍🎓

One of our club members, Andrew Bao, is participating in a fundraiser for the California Association of Student Councils. It’s an organization Andrew works at and they are doing a fundraiser to help continue the bi-annual conferences. These conferences allow for students across the state of California to become more civically engaged and serve as an educational opportunity.

This is a Krispy Kreme fundraiser where you simply donate $15 and get a Krispy Kreme Voucher for a box of a dozen glazed donuts in return. Vouchers will be sent out on October 12. Please see the image for details on how to participate. 🍩

Graphics and Design assistant! 🎨

We’re looking for a set of creative hands to join us as a Graphic Design Assistant! There’s always plenty to do to help support the club with flyers, social media graphics, and fun little projects to keep our community updated and inspired. If you enjoy design, love polo, or just want to get more involved with the club, this is a great way to lend your skills and be part of the team. Email [email protected] or speak to Katty.

Your next step in polo: USPA Membership

As you grow in your polo journey at CPC, joining the United States Polo Association (USPA) is an exciting milestone. Here’s how it works:

  • Lesson Riders → Non-Competing Membership

Perfect for players in lessons who are learning the sport but not yet in competitive chukkers. This level gives you USPA insurance coverage, connects you with the wider polo community, and is a great way to step into the world of polo.

  • Chukker Riders → Full Membership

Once you’re ready for chukkers, you’ll need a Full USPA Membership. The pace and contact are much higher, and with that comes different liability. Full membership ensures you’re covered and opens the door to official USPA chukkers and tournaments.

When you join, please remember to list California Polo Club as your host club. This directly strengthens CPC by giving us voting power within the USPA and additional funding support — every member truly makes a difference. 🗳 Join HERE.

Gear Spotlight 🏑

Are you in the market for some new mallets? Claudio Medina has a selection of mallets size 49-54 in different weights available for purchase. We will have a pick up of mallets in Indio this weekend (Oct 4/5) so any purchased mallets can be brought back to the club if you order before then.

Since we’ll also be in Santa Barbara this weekend, any items ordered from Jackson Hole Horse Emporium can be picked up and brought back to the club as well. Please let Katty know if you’ve placed orders with either shop so we can arrange accordingly!

Punctuality Reminder

We’ve noticed a few recurring late arrivals to lessons and chukkers. Please plan to arrive early so you’re ready to ride on time. Out of fairness to everyone, if you are late, your spot in a chukker may be reassigned and lessons will begin without delay.

If you know you’re running late, please text Katty so we know whether to hold your horse. Keep in mind that you’re still responsible for the lesson or chukker fee, even if you arrive late. In rare cases we may waive part of the charge, but this will be handled at our discretion.

Thank you for helping us keep things running smoothly and respectful of everyone’s time.

Housekeeping 🐴🧹

Chukker Attire: Whites are required for chukkers, no beige or off-white pants, please. A strong reminder that face masks or eye protection are mandatory during chukkers or scrimmages. For context a player was hit in the head by a backshot this week, and whilst there was no incident, we remind you that polo has its risks. Safety is non-negotiable.

From Katty, and the California Polo Club team
Until next time!
