Galloping into Orbit
Our very own rocket scientist, Shivani, has offered a tour of JPL/NASA for our next social outing. We’re currently expecting a Friday afternoon outing, then going into the early evening with great food afterwards. This one is really special, thank you, Shivani!Play at Santa Barbara in September:
In addition to our end-of-August spectator trip at Santa Barbara Polo Club, we will also be doing a trip to play at Santa Barbara in September. We had a lot of fun in Indio earlier this year and are looking forward to a repeat, but this time in the other direction! Talk to Katty about possibilities.
🏆 90210 wins Whittier Trust Cup, in Mother-Son matchup

Marking 125 years of Silver Cup tradition, our friends over at the Santa Barbara Polo Club hosted an electrifying showdown on Sunday as 90210 headed up by Sarah Siegel-Magness took on Bentley Estates Homies headed up by Sarah’s son Cable Magness in a spirited battle for the prestigious title.
The matchup featured a rare mother-son pairing and a rematch from earlier rounds, where Bentley Estates Homies had narrowly defeated 90210, 11-10. This time, 90210 showcased exceptional coordination, strategic defense, and masterful control of the ball, maintaining momentum throughout the game. They ultimately secured the Silver Cup and etched their name into the competition’s storied history.
If you want a recap, you can watch the final again HERE.

🐴🧹 Housekeeping
It’s HOT!
Weekend blended Chukkers are at 8am, Weekend lesson times will be confirmed night before, but please expect 9:30am/10am. There may only be one weekend lesson per day due to the heat.
Chukker Attire:
Whites are required for chukkers, no beige or off-white pants, please.
A strong reminder that face masks or eye protection are mandatory during chukkers or scrimmages. For context a player was hit in the head by a backshot this week, and whilst there was no incident, we remind you that polo has its risks. Safety is non-negotiable.
Punctuality:
There have still been a few chronic late arrivals to lessons. Please plan to arrive early and be ready to ride when your lesson starts.
Mallet Orders:
A reminder that for anyone looking to order mallets, now is a great time! Our partner Pablo Medina can advise on grip size, flex point and weight. Talk to Katty to get set up and place an order.
USPA Membership:
We request that all chukker players must be full USPA members with “Regular Player” status. The benefits include secondary medical coverage and $1M in liability insurance. We also encourage all lesson riders to become USPA members in the ‘non competing’ category. This also provides medical coverage, plus every member helps strengthen our club’s voting power and representation within the USPA. You can join HERE.
From Katty, and the California Polo Club team
Until next time!
